We met at SMK Anderson and never looked back since. Although our relationship has flourished and far from conventional, we both wanted to do something that speaks to our soul and values. With the support of our families, we started to look into building a business that aligns with our passion and values. We want to choose how we live and not be trapped by materialistic pursuit. With limited resources and endless determination, we decided to start Hijou Farm. However, with the exponential cost increase in building material and economic turmoil, our path is far from easy, but nevertheless we soldier on.
“We empower people to eat right and to live right.”
We all work towards a purpose of supporting the health and well-being of our planet and everyone who lives here. We believe our purpose will inspire many to join us in our efforts towards relieving the plight of unhealthy practices and our planet along with everything on it!
“To nourish the people and the planet and to accelerate the country’s transition towards a sustainable farming future.”
We see ourselves heading towards a carbon negative future in farming whilst producing the highest quality goods for our consumers. We aim to bring inspiration and innovations to local farmers by example to farm sustainably and tackle the global issues of food production with better pioneering agriculture models.
Hijou came about when 2 young folks saw an issue with our food system. An issue which also extends beyond just our food system but our way of living. We, Mik and Evelyn, decided to invest ourselves into heading towards a more sustainable future for our people by providing the means and knowledge about how we, the people, could do better in the long run.
We started out with an edible plant nursery, allowing people to grow their own food at home during the covid pandemic, converting their garden space into a resource, turning it into their very own food store, pharmacy, gym, recreational space and most importantly remaining as a beautiful garden the soothes the soul, at the same time stretching every drop of water, every drop of sweat, every inch of soil and every spoon full of organic fertiliser you would use in your conventional ornamental garden. Not to mention reducing the need to travel to get daily greens from the supermarket, therefore reducing the need for unnecessary emissions and helping our planet out at even the little things. It has made life alot more wholesome for many especially at the time and it has inspired us to grow and better our efforts to what we are doing today.
Today, we are working towards providing better and healthier options for the masses, targeting the issues we see in our commercial food system. We truly believe we are what we eat and we are all responsible for the repercussions left to our home, our planet earth. Farming has always been the foundation to our existence as a civilisation, and in farming our own food, we have harmed the earth to almost beyond repair in such a short time frame compared to the millions of years life has existed on this very planet. We as a growing civilisation has not been civil but instead remorseless and obdurate towards those that allow us to exist upon this earth, being corrupted by greed and ignorance. This has to change, and without change, we won’t last as long as we imagined.
By re-evaluating how we grow our food, we just might have a chance to move forward as a nation of humans. By introducing sustainable ways of growing our food, we have the ability to feed the people and potentially reverse the damage inflicted over the years by conventional commercial agriculture. By introducing sustainable systems which have been poorly understood, educating the importance of what moving forward actually is and inspiring everyone to make a change, may it be in your buying power as the people by supporting proper ethically grown food or those that grow on the ground themselves, then we might have that chance to evolve for the betterment of our health and the earth. We as the people have the power to make a change, and that drives us to do what we do today.
We are also aiming to potentially increase yields and profits for farmers by providing examples of ways to process their crops for better returns and reducing the need to rely on chemicals and chemical derived fertilisers therefore reducing expenses. By adding simple secondary processes, farmers will have the advantage of a longer lasting produce with higher returns giving them more time to sell and better margins for the work they put in. This will potentially reduce food waste and increase yields, benefitting the farmers that grow all our food we eat everyday.
On top of all of that, we aim to bring back lost ingredients in the culinary world, lost to the conventional way of farming that prioritises the monoculture of crops that has abandoned the diversity of food we once knew, lost to the “modernisation” of farming today. Food remains a timeless love language, transcending differences between people through the shared experience of enjoying a delicious meal or snack, and a fast way to find common ground. Bringing back the diversity of food in systems that helps our earth is THE goal and to be able to share it with everyone brings joy to us and everyone alike.
We still have a long journey ahead and we are just at the starting line. We hope inspire everyone with our 100% Natural movement and join us in this journey! Your support is just as important as our efforts and we thank you all for it! Cheers to a better future!

“To inspire, educate and outfit for a lifetime of high quality foods for better living and stewardship of land
that drives advocacy and change.”
We aim to achieve a sustainable and productive farm based on regenerative and diversified agriculture models using permaculture, no dig, and agroforestry as our main strategies. Our goals are to prioritise the health and vitality of our consumers by applying organic and natural farming methods, at the same time helping the environment recover by reducing carbon output and increasing carbon capture by putting carbon back into our soils. We aim to create a farm with minimal to no external inputs by cycling nutrients and by scrubbing nitrogen and carbon from the air using a diverse plethora of flora and fauna.
OurSmallKingdom is a community driven enterprise focused on bringing joy to displaced children and the aged through creativity, art and garden.
The #littleGreenWarrior program provides innovative learning opportunities for under privileged children on environmental awareness and sustainability.
Amidst the challenging Covid-19 Pandemic, it is vital that Homes cultivate the habits of sustainability and self reliance more than ever. #LGW Projects helps these Homes through designing, building and teaching them how to grow their own food. Essentially, we aspire to educate the children on how to reduce their carbon footprint through composting and tending to their own garden. The benefits are multifold, the children now have a chance to enjoy purposeful play outside daily instead of being cooped up inside all day.
